DRESS CODE

Élan Dance Arts maintains a dress code to encourage concentration and a sense of inclusiveness (variations in attire can be distracting and contribute to feelings of inequality). Uniformity in dancewear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with body alignment, and other important aspects of dance training.

 

Students have until October 1st to acquire all of the required dress code items. If students are not following the dress code, which includes hair being tied back, they will receive a dress code warning. After 3 warnings in the same class, they will not be allowed to participate in class until they have the proper dress code items.

 

Nylons and pantyhose are not considered proper dress code items and should not be worn to class. Students must have proper dance tights.

 

• Students should carry their dancewear, shoes, and other belongings in a dance bag. Please print your child’s name on the bag as well as on all of its contents.

• Dancewear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.

• Boys age l0 and older must wear a dance belt.

• Watches, jewelry, and safety pins cannot be worn to class.

• Dance shoes can never be worn outside.

• Indoor shoes cannot be put on in the car and then worn through the parking lot.

• Female students must wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face.

• Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits. Deodorant is required for students age 10 and older.


NOTE: NO STREET/OUTDOOR SHOES WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE STUDIO. Students may NOT put their INDOOR shoes on in the parking lot and walk in and use those shoes. There will be NO TOLERANCE on this matter.

 

 

Scooters:
Bodysuit: any style or color
Tights: pink (Mondor 310 Full Ballerina E6) OR bare legs
Shoes: (Bloch 205 or Capezio 200) with pink elastic sewn across the instep

 

Ballet Pre-Primary/Primary:
Bodysuit: lilac, short sleeve bodysuit (Mondor 1635)
Tights: (Mondor 310 Full Ballerina E6)
Shoes: (Bloch 205) or (Capezio 200) with pink elastic sewn across the instep
(Mondor 6207) in matching lilac

 

Ballet Grade 1-5:
Bodysuit: navy blue tank bodysuit (Mondor 1633) matching waist elastic
Tights: pink (Mondor 310 Full Foot E6)
Shoes: (Bloch 205 or Capezio 200) pink elastic sewn across the instep.
Character shoes: black canvas (Bloch SO314 or Capezio 457C/456)
Character skirt: to be ordered through the studio

 

Ballet Grade 6-8:
Bodysuit: black any style, calf length skirt
Tights: pink (Mondor 310 Full Foot E6)
Shoes: pink split sole ballet slippers (Bloch 203 42– leather or Bloch 277) or (Capezio 2030) – stretch canvas with pink elastic across instep

 

Advanced Ballet:
Bodysuit: black any style
Tights: pink (Mondor 314 Versatile or Mondor 315 Low Rise, Versatile E6 or Mondor 319)
Shoes: pink (Capezio 2030 – stretch canvas) with pink elastic across the instep. Pointe shoes to be arranged with teacher according to individual requirements.

 

Adult Ballet:
Bodysuit: black any style
Tights: pink
Shoes: pink ballet slippers as for grade 6-8

 

Boys Ballet Pre-Primary-Grade 1:
short sleeve bodysuit or t-shirt with black cotton shorts, white ankle socks, white leather ballet slippers (Capezio or Bloch) with white elastic across the instep.

 

Boys Ballet Grade 2-5:
white, short sleeve bodysuit or t-shirt, black leggings, white ankle socks, white leather (Capezio or Bloch) ballet slippers with white elastic across the instep.

 

Boys Advanced Ballet:
white bodysuit or t-shirt, black tights (Capezio 10), white ankle socks, with split sole stretch canvas (Capezio or Bloch) ballet slippers with elastic across instep, dance belt or athletic support from age 12.


Pre-jazz – Jr. Jazz & Jr. Lyrical:
Bodysuit: black tank bodysuit (Mondor 1645)
Tights: beige tights (Mondor 310- Light tan)
Jazz Shoes: beige split sole gore boot (Bloch 499-Tan)
Lyrical shoes: foot thongs or foot undies

 

Teen Jazz:
Bodysuit: black tank bodysuit (Mondor 1633)
Tights: beige tights (Mondor 310- Light tan)
Shoes: beige split sole gore boot (Bloch 499-Tan) or (Capezio DN981) in caramel

 

Sr. Jazz & Sr. Lyrical:
Bodysuit: black any style
Tights: beige tights (Mondor 310 Full Foot), (Mondor 314 Versatile), or (Mondor 315 Versatile Low Rise) or black tights - black shorts allowed.
Shoes: Jazz foot thong (Bloch Foot Thong) or foot undies
Adult: bodysuit style and colour optional, black jazz pants or black tights, black jazz shoes or jazz gore boot.
Boys: white t-shirt, black jazz pants, beige split sole gore boot (Bloch 499-Tan)

 

Tap

Pre-Tap-Jr. Tap: Same as jazz but tan low heel tap shoe (Capezio 625), Capezio Teletone taps or (Bloch 302)

Teen Tap: Same as jazz but tan low heel tap shoe (Bloch 302)
Senior Tap: Same as jazz but black (Bloch SO389) or (Tap flex SO388)
Adult Tap: Same as jazz and black (Bloch SO389)
Boys: white t-shirt, black jazz pants, black tap shoes (Bloch S0371- beginner) and (Bloch S0389 – advanced)


Acro:
Same as jazz but stirrup, footless, or convertible tights. Still Mondor light tan.

 

Musical Theatre:
Same as jazz, but black shorts and black leggings are allowed.

 

Stretch/Strengthen:
Same as jazz, but black shorts and black leggings are allowed

 

Hip Hop/Breakdancing:
Casual, comfortable clothing. Any running shoe, white preferred. No jeans or pajamas will be acceptable attire.

 

Pilates:
Comfortable/fitted clothing, bare feet.

 

Bootcamp:
Clean, indoor shoes ONLY!! Comfortable clothing.
